Great Crested Grebes nest here, their courtship display is not to be missed. Check out the parks woodland for Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Treecreepers, Nuthatch & many species of warblers. The park also boasts the largest heronry in any municipal park in the UK. |

| |  | Marton Mere & South BlackpoolMarton Mere Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its bird populations, also supports a number of other nationally important species such as dragonflies, butterflies, bats and orchids. The site contains a diversity of habitats including open water, reed beds, grassland as well as pockets of woodland and scrub. Visitors can enjoy the area through following the designated footpaths around the site and visiting the bird watching hides. |

The resident Turnstones at the boating lake are a delight to watch, Fleetwood Marsh nature park is good for birds, Butterflies & Dragonflies, & the estuary & coast here is a great location for waders. |

| |  | Garden WildlifeWe moved to Bispham, Blackpool in Spring 2004. The garden at our new home was very neglected & initially we got few birds visiting. We put up several bird feeders as soon as we moved in & as I also enjoy gardening I started to plant shrubs & small trees to provide cover for birds along with plants that attract butterflies & bees - after a while the wildlife started to appear & we now get regular visits from a variety of wildlife, some of which I've photographed & you can see in my galleries. |

| |  | Fairhaven Lake & Lytham St AnnesFairhaven Lake is situated on the Ribble Estuary between Lytham & St Annes. The estuary, known as Granny's Bay at this point, is a good vantage point for seeing a variety of Waders, whilst the Lake is home to various Waterfowl. |

| |  | Leighton Moss RSPBThis is my favourite reserve, it provides a variety of habitats, including Reed Beds (the largest in the North West) Woodland, Meres & Salt water pools/marsh. The diverse habitat attracts a good variety of birds, some of the more exotic include Bitterns, Avocet, Bearded Tit, Marsh harriers & Kingfishers, all of which breed at the reserve. |

| |  | Martin Mere WWT reserveThis is my wifes favourite reserve, there tends to be little if any sitting around waiting for something to appear here. Visit from October to February & you'll be blown away by the sight of 1000+ Whooper Swans, together with the thousands of geese on the main mere waiting to be fed. |

| |  | Mere Sands WoodMere Sands Wood is a Wildlife Trust reserve near Rufford & just a stones throw from Martin Mere WWT reserve. It's a beautiful reserve, with a good selection of woodland birds, plus there's always a good chance of seeing a Kingfisher. |

| |  | Sunderland PointThis is my favourite venue for waders. If you time it right, as the tide is pushing the birds in closer & closer to the road you can get some really great views (& photographs) of waders right at the roadside - likewise when the tide is going out - BUT - beware high tide as the road regularly floods here, as I once nearly found out to my cost. |

| |  | Heysham Nature reserveA wonderful little reserve, especially for Dragonflies & Butterflies, nearby is Port of Heysham, where the helipad plays host to a large numbers of roosting waders at high tide. |

| |  | RAF Donna NookAtlantic Grey Seals use the sand dunes around Donna Nook RAF bombing range to breed in late autumn & winter each year. What a fantastic spectacle they make as they haul themselves up to within a few yards of the footpath. The cute young seal pups look on whilst the bull seals battle it out for a mate. |
