Kestrel204 viewsI disturbed this Kestrel, which was at the side of the path @ Marton Mere nature reserve Blackpool, feeding on a dead Blackbird, the Kestrel took flight with the Blackbird hanging from it's talons, but it must have been too heavy for it as it dropped it, then perched nearby waiting for me to leave. It wouldn't return whilst I was in the vicinity so the best photo I managed was this one - taken through the branches of a bush. :-(

Southern Hawker Aeshna cyanea179 viewstaken into the sun from distance using my 500mm lens which resulted in quite unusual colours. Now ID'd as a Southern Hawker becuase: - the size of its antehumeral stripes, the lack of yellow along the costa eliminates Common Hawker, the stripes on the 9th and 10th abdomen segments (rather than spots), & the small size of the anal clasper rules out Migrant Hawker.
