Weasel - Mustela nivalis129 viewsthis Weasel was one of 4 or 5 that ran across the path right in front of me at Marton Mere nature reserve, Blackpool
they were all way too quick for me, & my shutter speed way too slow for them, hence the dodgy record shot.

Weasel Mustela nivalis81 viewsMy mate Dave initially told me this was a Stoat, claiming a Weasel is weasily recognised but a Stoat is stoataly different - well opinion is now divided, with another learned friend saying it's a Weasel, which I'm also leaning towards.
It's a poor/out of focus shot which doesn't help with ID, photographed @ Bradshaw Lane Pilling

Stoat98 viewssee the two shots aside of a stoat with it's prey, which is a Redwing, the Stoat dropped the Redwing when it saw me, I moved back a safe distance & when I returned to check the Redwing had gone, so the stoat had obviously returned & carried off it's spoils.

Stoat109 viewsa poor record shot taken before I got my DSLR, this Stoat was coming towards me on one of the paths at Leighton Moss, when it spotted me it dropped it's prey (a redwing) which it returned to get when I moved on.

Stoat126 viewsI've seen quite a few Stoat (or maybe Weasels?) here, but this was the only one I was quick enough to photograph, as you can see it was taken at range and sadly I had my Sigma 105mm Macro lens fitted at the time, a zoom lens would've made this into a half decent shot :-( .

American Mink605 viewsIn spring 2007 I was stood photographing the Grey Herons, when suddenly the whole Heronry went wild, making a real racket, it was soon clear what had agitated them when this Mink appeared from the undergrowth & quietly slipped into the water & swam away. It was a fantastic sighting & they're a beautiful animal, what a shame they're such a menace.
